Just about everyone has now heard of muscle relaxing injections being used to smooth away and prevent unwanted lines and wrinkles. Botulinum toxin (commonly known as Botox, Dysport or Vistabel) is now one of the most popular cosmetic treatments in the world. It’s not a secret any more!
So how do Botox injections work and what are the benefits of Botox? More importantly, what can Botox injections do for you? Botox works by temporarily blocking the action of the facial muscles that cause fine lines and facial wrinkles. It can smooth away lines and wrinkles making you appear younger and less tired and worried-looking in a matter of days. Botox injections can reduce wrinkles and soften crow’s feet, laughter lines. worry lines, frown lines and brow furrows. Best of all, Botox can actually prevent facial wrinkles forming if you get in on the act soon enough!
Of course, you’ll want to know about any possible side effects of Botox. It is remarkably safe in trained hands. Firstly you will have a thorough consultation with the doctor who is going to treat you to make sure that Botox is suitable for you. If you decide to go ahead, we use both numbing cream and micro-needles so that Botox injections are virtually painless. As with any injection, some minor bleeding, redness and bruising is possible. This can easily be concealed with makeup if necessary. About 1 – 2% of people experience temporary drooping of the eyelid after Botox injections. Sometimes people develop a headache and flu-like symptoms for a short while. Allergic reactions to Botox are extremely rare. In any event, you can rest assured that you will always be treated by an experienced doctor in a fully- equipped medical environment. By using small doses of Botox and a ‘softly, softly’ approach, you won’t end up with an unnatural ‘frozen’ appearance.
Botox treatment takes about ten minutes and downtime is minimal so you can get straight back on with your life! The results become noticeable in about 10 days and last 3 to 6 months, when you can have repeat treatment if you wish.
